The reason that MRSA is so serious is because over the years since it has been discovered there have been versions of it that resist the previous form of treatment. In the 1880 it was first diagnosed, and in the 1940's it was treated successfully on a regular basis. But with the over use, and misuse the strain had grown immune to the antibiotics of the time, so they had to find something else that cured it. In 1961 British scientists had found a strain that was immune to all previous types of antibiotics, this is when it started being called MRSA, before that it was simply S. Aureus. The last time they found a strain of MRSA that was becoming immune to even the strongest medicines was in 2002.
